The Courier and Daily Comet

The Courier and Daily Comet are sister papers in Houma and Thibodaux, Louisiana. On Saturday mornings, the two papers produce a combined paper. Both newspapers have a long history of excellence, earning numerous top awards in state, regional and national journalism contests. The Courier has earned the title of Newspaper of the Year in its circulation category at the Louisiana Newspaper Association's journalism competition for each of the past eight years. The sister papers also include two websites, houmatoday.com and dailycomet.com.

  • 2014 - Among its 39 LPA awards, The Courier won 16 for first place in categories that included Best Regular Column, Best Feature Photo, Best Ad Campaign and Best Web Product. The Comet won 38 LPA awards. Among its 12 first-place awards were Best Single Editorial, Best Sports Story, Best Regular Column, Best Photo Package and Best Overall Website. In the AP contest, The Courier won three first-place, two second-place and three third-place awards while the Daily Comet got five first-place, four second-place and 10 third-place honors. Top awards included sports columns, and business and continuing news coverage.
