Halifax Media Group Agrees to Sell the Santa Rosa Press Democrat and its affiliated publications to Sonoma Media Investments, LLC
DAYTONA BEACH, FL, November 1, 2012 – Halifax Media has reached an agreement to sell the Santa Rosa Press Democrat and its affiliated publications to a recently formed local company. Halifax Media purchased the Press Democrat, The Petaluma Argus-Courier and North Bay Business Journal in January, 2012 from the New York Times Company as part of an acquisition that included 16 publications, mostly in the Southeast. The announced transaction is expected to close early November. Terms of the transaction were not disclosed.
“Sonoma Media is funded by investors who live in the community and care about their local newspaper,” said Michael Redding, CEO of Halifax Media Group. “We purchased the businesses earlier this year and have been impressed with the outstanding staff and excellent publications. Considering 90% of our company is based in the Southeast, it makes geographic sense for Sonoma Media to own the business.”
