PRESSPERSON - Full-Time, Nights

The Ocala Star Banner is currently seeking a full-time pressperson for its pressroom operations. Duties include the set-up of a Goss Headliner newspaper press, monitoring output for quality and maintaining the equipment on an ongoing basis. Work hours will primarily be scheduled between 5:00 p.m. and 5:00 a.m., with a typical four-night work week. This position will primarily work in Ocala, but at times may be asked to work at The Gainesville Sun, a sister-newspaper.

DIGITAL EDITOR

The Tuscaloosa News is seeking a Digital Editor to manage our websites and other digital platforms. The ideal candidate would have previous experience producing and promoting multimedia content for a daily newspaper operation, sound news judgement, understanding of libel law and journalistic ethics, familiarity with content management systems and SEO practices, excellent writing and photography skills, ability to shoot and edit video and proficiency with HTML, Adobe Premiere, Caspio, Photoshop and Microsoft Office. The digital editor is a supervisory position, reporting to the executive editor, and with the authority, in collaboration with the city editor and other editors, to direct reporters, videographers, photographers and some other newsroom employees to develop each days news report, as well as weekend plans and long-term projects. The position requires a self-starter who can react quickly to breaking news and ensure the newsroom is working with a sense of urgency to provide content for and update our digital products. This person also interacts with key staff members in other departments at the newspaper and the corporate level and must be connected with members of the community and news sources. Responsibilities include producing, editing, organizing and managing content on tuscaloosanews.com and other digital platforms, including driving web traffic through social media outlets, such as Facebook and Twitter, and other online tools, writing and editing stories, posting stories and photos, managing blogs, building databases, engaging with site users and collaborating with sports, photo and news departments to help develop multimedia elements to accompany stories. Work schedule typically would be M-F during the day but could include night shifts, weekends and some holidays. Four-year degree in journalism, communications or related field, preferred. Classified Inside Sales Supervisor

Serves as support to entire Inside Classified Team. Also serves as the coordinator of workflow for the team. Manages the timely flow of information and materials between the sales manager, sales reps, customers, artists, and accounting, technology and production departments. Provides high degree of customer service. Works in a large office with considerable traffic and frequent interruptions. Paginates Hot off the Press, N-J Focus and the classified papers every other Friday.

Backs up Classified Pagination when needed. Accountable for scheduling and entering ads into the system by deadline. Processes, kills and changes orders by deadline. Ensures that completed ads are delivered to creative and composing in a timely and accurate manner and by deadline. Must have in depth understanding of Mactive – specifically Ad Booker. Must be able to generate reports for Mactive using Ad Booker. Answers phones and takes complete messages. Assists in faxing proofs and other materials to customers. Responsible for researching problems for customers e.g. credit or ad copy problems. Responsible for providing timely and positive resolution to customer inquiries and problems. Assists in covering open desks during vacations, illnesses or periods of turnover. Reviewing accounts and getting accounts that have issues resolved so that the new rep can take over. Keeps reps abreast of deadlines. Demonstrates professionalism and effective communication skills. Assists with spec ad development and special selling (contests, programs, special sections, etc.). Input of liners (to assist reps and for our Human Resources Department – as needed). Will assist in the training of new salespeople. Responsible for reporting and score-boarding sales by rep, time period and/or product. Assist sales manager with reporting of weekly forecast, month end reports, daily revenue reports, etc. Handles special billing, such as flat rating and gang pages. Helps assist sales manager with rating issues and rates. Assists in the follows through on set ups for new reps – email, logins, phones, training, etc. Processes invoices for payment – i.e., Class Plus Will handle accounting issues such as completing adjustments for approval, understanding and typing up accounting procedures for staff, etc. Train new salespeople on Mactive/Ad Booker. Processing adjustments for Accounting. Helping Private Party w/questions, researching ads, adding reps to accounts, etc.

This job requires a team player who has a creative mind – someone who can turn story concepts into attractive, reader-friendly fronts.

The ideal candidate will have web experience, being able to edit and post stories to the two websites, as well as provide ideas for web components to print stories. This position also will include some work on daily graphics and artwork for both papers. Strong editing, headline writing and photo editing skills are a must, as well as knowledge of AP style. Knowledge of InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator also preferred. Requirements: A bachelor’s degree with some daily newspaper experience.
